Social discrimination, unemployment, hate crimes and lack of understanding of sexual identities are challenges that continue shake black lesbians in South Africa, particularly those from townships.
The Forum for Empowerment of Women (FEW) learnt this while attempting to intervene through its Community Intervention Project, which aims to take the organisation’s services to the community, build relationships with township lesbians and to investigate issues affecting black lesbians in these areas.

24 - 27 September 2009, various venues:-
Day 1: Heritage Day Celebration: Constitution Hill from 11h00 till 17h00, the celebrations will include book discussions, exhibitions and poetic words for the soul....
Day 2: Film Screening in Soweto – ‘XXY’, Movie: Makhaya Hall Zondi 1, opposite Shell Garage from 17:30 pm till late. Following the movie, a fifteen minute discussion will take place. Drinks and snacks will also be provided.
Day 3: Soweto Pride March: Sputnik Garage, Cnr Vincent and Saunders Rd, Meadowlands from 10:00 am till we settle at the park.
At the Park: 12:00 pm till 18:00
The float will leave from FEW's Offices, 1 Kotze Street, Old Women's Gaol, Constitution Hill at 09:00 am
Day 4: 'Chill and Braai' session at Moloi Sports Centre, opposite Merafe Hostel. The session will also include an all women's soccer match, so be there and don't miss out...
Lots of goodies will be sold, including yellow Pride t-shirts for R80 and black Feminist vests for R100...

The time has come again for all the luscious lesbians, gorgeous gays, beautiful bisexuals and terrific trans men and women to come out and bloom. Spring is here, summer is here and hibernating time is over.
Forum for the Empowerment of Women [FEW] invites all men and women, black, white, yellow, green to come and celebrate our identities, our sexualities and our heritage together in style. This year we have extended Soweto Pride to a four day celebration starting on the 24th September 2009 (Heritage day) ‘til the 27th September 2009.
