Poetry

Loud and Clear
by Deidre “D-Lishus” Walton

All over the world
Before me was even gurl
Audre come and pave di way
Fi mi fi stand up here today
Write and talk and educate
Stop discrimination, stop hate
So we could come and tek up space
Full identity embrace
Cause Audre was a lesbian
A lesbian, a lesbian
Audre Lorde was a lesbian.
Unnu hear mi?
Audre was a lesbian
A lesbian, a lesbian
A proud Black lesbian.

All over the city
People said it was a pity
Tears did shed and heads did hang
Clasp wi han and sing a song
We felt sad at Mary’s passing
But we celebrate ‘ar crossing
Cause Mary was a lesbian.
Mary Pritchard was a lesbian.
Unnu hear mi?
Yes Mary was a lesbian
A lesbian, a lesbian
Mi know dat Mary was a lesbian.

All over the city
Bodies rock in grief and pity
Heads a shake in disbelief
Grim Reaper come in and him tief
Weh Sherona.
Inna di newspaper, dem a write dem story bout ‘ar
Mi a read di story bout ‘ar
But dere’s one likkle fac’
Dat mi caan see it anywhere
One ting bout ‘arself
Weh mi tink she did hol’ dear
Sherona was a lesbian
A lesbian, a lesbian
Sherona was a lesbian.
Unnu hear mi?
Sherona was a lesbian
A lesbian, a lesbian
Sherona was a lesbian.

All over the city
Mi a fight do bigot man dem
Mi a challenge hypocrite dem
And a bruk down all di system
Mi a train up all di yoot dem
So wi community wi strengthen
And deidre is a lesbian
A lesbian, a lesbian
Yes mi is a lesbian.
Unnu hear mi?
D-Lishus is a lesbian
A lesbian, a lesbian
An out and proud lesbian.

Somewhere in the city
Baby sucking on a titty
Soon a leader will arise
End corruption, stop di lies
All activists will mobilize,
Mek big changes, organize
Turn T-dot into paradise
And she will be a lesbian,
A lesbian, a lesbian
Yes she will be a lesbian.
Unnu hear mi?
